Gaisce - The President's Award

Gaisce - The President's Award is the National challenge Award for young people in Ireland. Her Excellency President Mary Mc Aleese is patron of the Award program.

Q. Who is it for?
A. The Award is open to anyone between the ages of 15-25 years of age

Q. How many Awards are there?
A. There are three Awards:

Level	Minimum age	Completion Time
Bronze	15	6-9 months
Silver	16	12-15 months
Gold	17	18-24 months

Q. What exactly do I do to earn an award?
A. There are four different areas of activity in the award programme and you must participate in each section. The four sections are:

- Community Involvement
- Personal Skill
- Physical Recreation
- Venture activity

Q. What is expected of me in each of the four sections?
A. That depends on the level of award as follows:

Community Involvement You select on activity e.g. helping out in a charity shop. The minimum requirement is:
Bronze	one hour a week for 15 weeks
Silver	one hour a week for 30 weeks
Gold	one hour a week for 60 weeks

Personal Skill You select one activity e.g. Drama. The minimum requirement is:
Bronze	one hour a week for 26 weeks
Silver	one hour a week for 39 weeks
Gold	one hour a week for 52 weeks

Physical Recreation You must select one activity e.g. swimming. The minimum requirement is:
Bronze	one hour a week for 12 weeks
Silver	one hour a week for 15 weeks
Gold	one hour a week for 18 week

Venture Section You select one activity e.g. foot or cycling expedition. The minimum requirement is:

Bronze	2 days-25-35 km	2 days-100-130km
Silver	3 days -50-79 km	3 days-190-220km
Gold	4 days-80-110km	4 days- 300-350km
