County Donegal

The county derived its curent name from Donegal Town, however when it first came into existence in 1585, under the control of the O'Donnell Clan, it was called 'Tír Conaill'. And here are some more essential facts!!!

County Donegal:

Has Ulster and Ireland's largest Gaelthacht: Gaoth Dobhair,

Is one of Ireland's biggest counties,

Has its own international airport at Carrick Finn, 

Won  the All-Ireland for the first time in 1992,

Has Ireland's biggest fishing port: Killybegs, 

Was the setting (Lough Swilly) for the capture of the 1898 Revolutionary, Wolfe Tone,

Has one of Europe's fastest growing towns: Leterkenny, 

Has Ireland's biggest national park: Glenveagh, 

Has one of Ireland's premier seaside resorts: Bundoran,

Has Europe's highest sea cliffs: Slieve League,

Donegal's highest mountain is Mt. Erigal,
