Lough Allen Adventure Gaisce Programmes
Lough Allen Adventure Centre is approved by Gaisce as a facilitator of Venture Projects for The Presidents Award Scheme. Over the past seven years we have built up a countrywide reputation for facilitating safe, yet challenging expeditions which are rewarding and above all, a lot of fun. We provide experienced instructors, full training a nd equipment for both open boat canoeing and hillwalking expeditions. Full instructor supervision is provided during expeditions to ensure safety at all times but this is always as unobtrusive to the group as possible. We fully encourage participants to be independent and to make their own decisions. We offer advice on routes and camping locations, taking weather conditions and water levels into account. After that however groups can decide themselves how far and where they want to go, depending on the level of award, group skills and general fitness. You can choose from open boat or hillwalking expeditions. You can paddle on the surrounding lakes, canals and rivers for a gentle time. For a nailier trip, hit the waves on bigger Lough Allen days out on a white water river. For those who want to head for the hills, we've got plenty of them. If you've a pair of boots, warm clothes, a rucksack and sleeping bag we can sort you out with most other gear you'll need for a hillwalking expedition. On arri val at Lough Allen, Gaisce groups (after a warm welcomeŽ) receive a full days training in navigation and or open boat skills, camp-craft skills and survival skills. Once training is complete, it is then over to you to organise, plan and schedule. We don't dictate a timetable. You do! You'll tell your instructors your ETD's and ETA's and they will simply follow you, just to make sure everything is o.k. If it's not the weird spirits up on the hill in the dark at Fionns' Rock; the strange odour of you mates' socks, gently singeing by the campfire; that tree root you slept on all night, that definitely wasn't under your tent when you put it up! That big white ghost... or was it a goat you saw, those other creatures? and what was that strange wailing last night anyway? We're sure you'll have some tales to tell after a trip from Lough Allen Aventure Centre.
