We were introduced to the  Awards during transition year. Following a talk by Michael Collins we were all very interested and decided to partake in the programme. Initially five students signed up but presently there are three taking part; namely Laura McGovern, Thomas McPartland and Robbie Kingston.

There are four sections to the awards, Community Involvement, Personal Skill, Physical Recreation and a venture section.
Both Laura and Thomas are currently taking part in the silver award and are aiming to have in completed in November 2004.

We have a group of thirteen students currently participating in the bronze award; namely Emma Cornyn, Patrick Daly, Claire Gallagher, Maeve Harrison, Mark Kavanagh, Catriona McCawley, Catriona Loughlin, Fiona McCawley, Therese McManus, Paul McNama,Robbie Kingston, Brendan Sheridan and Fergal Wynne. This group is also hoping to have the award completed in November 2004.

All of the above participants are looking forward to going to the Lough Allen Adventure Centre over their October mid-term break to complete their Venture section of the award.

Following a very informative talk given by Michael Collins of Gaisce to some fourth year and transition year students on Tuesday the 27th of September a huge amount of interest was shown by the students. Singing up for Gaisce will be on the Friday the 1st of October.

We have had a huge response to the Gaisce awards with over thirty students signing up for the bronze award this year. We wish them every success.
