About the NYP

The Monaghan Neighbourhood Youth Project (NYP) is a community based resource providing a range of youth work services for young people in the 10-18 age group.


The NYP:

  • Enables young people to involve themselves consciously and actively in their own development and the development and of the society.
  • Will provide specialised services directly to young people with particular needs.
  • Works directly with young people at individual, group and family levels.
  • Supports the community to provide a variety of youth groups and activities which enable young people to meet their needs.

 

NYP Activities/Methods


The project will provide a wide range of  interesting activities for young people such as:

 

Discussion Groups: addressing teenage issues such as; career opportunities, communication skills, drug misuse, relationships, family structure.

 

Individual/Group support

 

Activity Clubs

E.g. Arts/crafts, drama, fishing.

 

Holiday programmes

 

Outdoor Pursuits Groups e.g. canoeing, soccer.

 

After/In school groups in partnership with local schools e.g. transition programmes, homework clubs.

 

Open House Fun clubs e.g. games, computers, pool.

 

Special Interests Courses e.g. video production, photography, Samba.

 

Trips away.

 

 

 

The NYP has more to offer…

 

Monaghan NYP:-

 

  • Supports young people to negotiate their way successfully through adolescence to adulthood.
  • Provides support at a number of levels; Intensive group work, individual and family support.
  • Provides an opportunity for young people to socialise in a safe, comfortable and caring environment.
  • Provides opportunities for parents to become actively involved in their children’s development.
  • Empowers young people to express their opinions, work collectively and exercise their influence.
  • Provides training and support to adult volunteer leaders to develop clubs and activities for the young people of their community.
  • Fosters participation, collective action and voluntary activity by youth and adults.
  • Has professional links with other Agencies such as:

-         North Eastern Health Board

-         Gardai

-         Local Schools

-         Home School Liaison Officer
