Sacred Heart School
Drogheda

Our School

The Sacred Heart is suituated on the Dublin Road, on outskirts of the town. There are approximately 500 students at present attending our school in Drogheda.Lucky as we are we have 34 teachers in our school. The school provides a wide range of subjects; Irish, English, mathematics, history, geography, art, mucic, accountancy, business studies, chemistry, physics, biology, religion, Civic Social & Political Education and Social Personal & Health Education. C.S.P.E, as it is otherwise known as, business studies and science are compulsary for the Junior Certificate in our school. Among the languages are German, French and Spanish. French is the most popular language in the school without a doubt! LCVP is a popular subject among many 5th year students! Transition year however in the Sacred Heart is optional. There is a class of 34 transition years this year. They put in great efforts when doing activities and projects; for example, carrying out surveys on importent issues, raising money for charity and holding bake sales in the school.
We have many facilities in the school; a language room, 2 science laboritories, 2 kitchens, a art room, a music room, a libary and  a needlework/ sewing room. Considering the small mumbers in the school we are extremly lucky to have a large gym which we use in p.e. classes, at lunch time and after school for playing sport. For the people who dislike sport , there is a wide range of gym equipment which can be used also. Many people in the SHS, including junior and senior students have an interest in sport; basketball is probly the most popular sport at the moment in the school. At present we have an excellent senior and junior team playing for us.We were very lucky to get to the final in Tallaght back in 2002 !!!!! We are also very lucky to have a lovely guidance counsellor whose help is at hand anytime we need advice or have a problem.
We also have a
Students Representative Council or S.R.C.  in the Sacred Heart was established in 1996 and is a medium for voicing student's opinions. The S.R.C. hold meetings on a weekly basis, where our Vice Principal attends and liases between members of the council and our Principal.
We have a school choir in the school in which students have the choice in participating in. Last year the choir, with the help of our music teacher  and our vice principal , made their own c.d. compiled of a variety of Christmas songs. The recording of the c.d.; "A Christmas Feeling" took alot of patience as the girls had to hit those notes perfectly!!! Despite their impatience (and hoarse throats) the c.d. turned out a success!!!Well done girls  !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
