Community

Picking a community activity hasn't been as easy as we first thought. Most students considered visiting old peoples homes but after thinking about it most students wanted to gain new skills from the activities they participated in. Students are now considering helping out at local youth clubs and helping to run football teams as all transition years have completed a course in GAA training. Another option many are considering is to volunteer to work in one of the many charity shops around town.
But for the community activity, most TY students are using a project done on drugs awareness for the Young Social Innovators (Y.S.I.) competition 2004.
This competition was done from October to May and involved doing a project on an issue in the local community. The two projects done in our school were called "The Street Where You Live", which was done on homelessness and "Because I Got High", which focused on drug abuse among teenagers.
